TOPIC: Cello via guitar synthesis and The Duke

Cello via guitar synthesis and The Duke 4 weeks 1 day ago #23177

I've been wanting to do this video on our balcony all summer and the spectacular sunrise this morning provided the perfect opportunity.

I'm playing through MainStage 3 on 2 channels, the first triggering a sampled cello and the second playing The Duke to provide subtle motion and vibrato. I have some compression, a little EQ and 2 envelope followers in series on The Duke channel and my iRig Bluetooth expression pedal assigned to both volume and gain. Hair by Sid Barrett  Enjoy the sunrise and beautiful song by Morricone.

That’s not music - that’s Music!

Just gorgeous. Hard to believe you are playing that on a guitar.

Thanks for the info Richard. A few follow ups:
- Are you triggering the cello via a midi pickup on the guitar or via audio?
- What's the cello sample library? I've had good luck with the free spitfire cello but the cello sound you achieve is so real. wow

Impressive that you were able to switch from mad scramble gear set up to that performance. bravo!

Thank you, humbuckr. I do have several sample libraries and Symphobia, but I like the SWAM cello best since it's physical modeling. I did have a hex pickup installed on my beloved Daion Power Mark XX (which killed me to do!) but now only use the audio to trigger MIDI via MIDI Guitar 2 app.

You are SO right about the difficulty from mad scramble to performance!! It always seems to happen that way for some reason. I used to practice in front of our TV with ESPN on so I could get used to all the motion which I experience when I perform at Children's Hospital in Denver (29 times now). You'd be surprised how many people walk up to me while I'm playing and ask questions! "Hold on a sec, this is hard." (playing Cliffs of Dover  ) I also run around the house sometimes and then try to play something while I'm breathing hard. It really does help! www.facebook.com/richard.geppinger/videos/10208996552069028

Loved your post about how things are not always what they seem. thanks for including that link. Love your playing. so fluid and it shows how much practice you put in.

Thanks for the info for MIDI guitar 2. Will research that!

Thank you very much for your compliments! Are you talking about the post where I'm coming up from the basement and show the contrast?

I love the little boy at Children's bobbing up and down to Cliffs

I've wanted to give MIDI Guitar 2 a shot because people say that it works well but there's no AAX version for ProTools. I'll keep an eye out for it.

I think this probably has the best tracking available without a specialized pickup, but you may be limited to the synth sounds included - Boss SY-200 Guitar Synthesizer Pedal. It does have MIDI out so you should be able to control software synths.

Simply WOW.. Absolutely beautiful :good job: I have a Godin multiac with 13-pins midi and heard some good things about the midi guitar 2 midi app. Will definitely search for the SWAM Cello library, I hope there is a Black Friday deal. Thanks that's what I call music

Sounds really good, especially considering it's a guitar with MIDI!
