TOPIC: Allan Holdsworth tone-matching on In The Dead of Night

Allan Holdsworth tone-matching on In The Dead of Night 2 years 3 months ago #22902

Even though his rig changed over time, his tone always remained beautiful and his playing otherworldly. I matched his Hughes and Kettner rig for this song. I have found that I can over-rehearse certain songs, so I ran through it a couple of times and hit record and hoped for the best.

Well played, sir!!!! I think I might be able to achieve the same (if I practiced the riffs for several years, and performed at 1/4 speed).

I'm sure you could, and I did just as you mentioned: played it for many years before I could figure out just what the heck he was playing. And though I eventually found the right notes - many of them were in the wrong place! Same thing I did with Cliffs of Dover when I learned it from a cassette before seeing him play it on Austin City Limits. I think I just got lucky to get it all together in one take!
