TOPIC: Metheny

Hey guys:

Not sure if this ground has been covered but has anyone tried dialing in a Metheny-esque tone with S-GEAR?

If anyone has, I'm interested in hearing the patch.

Thanks!

Well, first of all, to sound like him you would have to play like him. He is one of those guys that will sound like himself no matter what he is playing (a select group that includes, among others, Brian May, Eddie Van Halen, BBKing, Clapton, Wes Montgomery).

With that being said, his setup has been described in detail many times, but part of the "secret" is the way he uses two or three separate delays/amps (no chorus as some people think), and the use of a thin pick slightly warped/bended by three fingers (thumb, index and middle finger). Other than that, a clean amp like the Duke, Jackal or Wayfarer could help. I would suggest you use a DAW host and includes three separate channels loaded with S-Gear (each with different delay settings).

Channel 1: Set Delay 1 to 14ms, No feedback, 100% wet.

Channel 2: Set Delay 2 to 22ms, No feedback, 100% wet.

Channel 3: Dry.

Blend the channels accordingly and pan them to produce a fake "stereo".
