TOPIC: Adding Redwirez IRs

Adding Redwirez IRs 2 weeks 6 days ago #24771

Hi all,
Is there a way to add bought Redwirez IRs to S-Gear in a way that would integrate with the ones already available (i.e. selectable cab, mic, distance and Z control). I'm on Mac.
Thanks in advance.

Hello remlop,

There is a section in the S-Gear manual regarding importing IRs. It is in section 17, on page 58. I don't know if this provides EVERYTHING you are looking for, but it is a place to start. You can try linking to the manual here: dq36pddqew5zn.cloudfront.net/S-GearV31_U...l_DraftA.pdf#page=58

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply t_b_o_t but I had tried the procedure described in the manual with the free IR samples from Redwirez but I simply end up with an unorganized list of IR with no apparent way to manage them through the same interface as the stock ones, can't imagine what a mess it can become with many more cabs, microphones and distances available. I honestly think there's no simple way to do this but really wish there was.

I use MiXIR3 with my Redwirez IRs. That plugin manages all the IRs in a visual format for mic selections, placements, etc. Of course if you want to use it with S-Gear, you'll need to put MiXIR3 after S-Gear, and turn off the cabinet in S-Gear. If you want to use post amp effects (delay, reverb), you'll need a third plug-in, or a second instance of S-Gear. So:

S-Gear compressor/OD/Amp --> MiXIR3 Cabinet --> delay/reverb, etc

That's of course another decent possibility for recording but I still find it a bit less practical than simply launching the standalone version of S-Gear when I just want to practice.

Unfortunately, its the nature of IRs to be a single waveform capture of a specific combination of cabinet, mic choices, mic positions, etc. So we end up with a huge list of choices, regardless of the amp sim used to host the IR(s). Only a few IR companies have managed to create a user friendly method of auditioning, choosing, and mixing IRs (such as mixir3). I know of no amp sim company that's done a similar thing (except for IK Multimedia in the Tonex software. with their VIR technology).

One solution is to use a fancy IR host plugin (such as mixir3, which is $)) with S-Gear as the amp-only front end, find/create your shorter list of favorites, then load those favorites into S-Gear. You can also create favorites and IR mixes and save them with more user-friendly names.

I don't know of any amp sim that offers a convenient way of organizing 3rd party IRs either (which is a shame because it seems to me that it could easily be implemented by imposing a naming convention and/or file hierarchy) so that's really not a S-Gear-only issue but I still had a tiny bit of hope considering there already were Redwirez IRs included.
Thank you for your replies

I'm fairly new to S Gear and loving it, however, I do think it could benefit from a folder system in the impulse section. Having a list of hundreds of file names is not conducive to the creative process when searching through IRs for a particular sound.
