TOPIC: Jack White / White Stripes tone

Jack White / White Stripes tone 2 months 4 weeks ago #22258

Hi, all.

New here! Very excited to join the community.

Apartment living has forced my tube amps into the closet, like many of you I'm sure.

I am trying to achieve the raunchy sounds on songs like, say, "Fell in Love With a Girl." I think he uses a Fender Twin Reverb - in addition to other vintage amps.

I have achieved "ok" results so far by...

1. Using the "Duke" amp
1. Actually doubling the guitar, as Jack White does on his records
2. And summing the SAME track hard left/right with slightly different settings

Any suggestions on...

1. Amps
2. IR's
3. Effects
4. Tricks/methods
5. Etc. etc.

Thanks very much!

Bill

Stomp boxes if you got 'em! Like here.

If you need to use software plug-in substitutes, try those.

Your first attempts are quite promising (Duke, doubling with hard pan L and R.)

I haven't really tried to get his tone, but the two times I stumbled on something were:
- using the Audiority Big Goat fuzz plugin (got into some Icky Thump territory)
- using the Radiator plugin from SoundToys made me think of some of the console/desk distortion I heard in some recordings.

I've also been impressed with the free Pitchproof pitch shifter (Aegean Music).

Try as many free demos as possible, then narrow it down. I've used the Big Goat mentioned, as well as Audiority's Distortion 1. Both excellent.
