TOPIC: Downloading User Presets

Downloading User Presets 3 months 6 days ago #18778

Greetings, I think I am having a brain fade as I can't download any (I have tried several). When I click on the attachment the file opens in a new web page instead of downloading. I know I must import them into the app presets so it is just the downloading. Maybe it is my computer which has been challenging lately with multiple problems. Thanks in advance. John

Try right-clicking on the attachment and see if a menu comes up under the cursor.

Thanks Erik, Yes that works.When I looked at doing this before my brain decided that the "Save link as" was saving the web site URL. Strange how simple things can create chaos at times.

Hi Guy's,

Yes, it seems that the .sfx files are being opened by the browser on some systems. I'm not sure why but will look into it. If any html experts have the answer, feel free to chime in.

As erik noted, you can avoid the problem by using right-click 'save link-as'.

Cheers,
Mike

I believe it is a Google Chrome behavior. I encountered similar issue that I posted on a separate chain.

The problem seems to have come along since we recently updated the website. I have a feeling it is due to specific http the site generates for the download icons. I haven't had a change to look into it as yet!

I think I remeber something about files showing in the browser instead of being downoaded has something todo with setting the correct MIME-type on the server. I don't know if there is a MIME.type föor sfx files. Otherwise files that do not have a more precise MIME-type should have "Content-Type: application/octet-stream" Hope this helps.

Trying to download a preset today, and seing that the problem is still there I looked into it a bit.

MIME types for the nginx server is set in a file called "mime.types". These MIME settings are included in the main server config file (nginx.conf) in the http section via an include like this
http {
  include    conf/mime.types;
  include    /etc/nginx/proxy.conf;
  ...
}

In this mime.types file adding a line for sfx files should solve the problem.
application/octet-stream              sfx;

Thanks klinge for your input. I think this is now working. The site code needs some attention since the file attachment embedded in a post still tries to open the .sfx file in a new tab.

I tested clicking on links for sfx files in forum posts using Firefox and Chrome. Now both were behaving well and opening a file download window (instead of trying to display the contents of the sfx file in the browser)
