I think you need to upgrade your reading/comprehension skills. Re-read the entire paragraph I wrote. What I exclusively do with that Win98 laptop is explained with all significant details.

Maybe you'll understand a bit better, if I tell you that my main laptop used for recording is a 15" Toshiba Win10, 16Gb RAM, 1TB SSD, 2.5Ghz i7, bought in November 2017.

Maybe everything is a bit clearer for you now...? :cunning: :cunning: :cunning: :cunning: :cunning:

Hey Mike... does the release of v. 2.9 has by any chance something to do with the 31st October 2019 expiration date of S-Gear being part of the Slate Digital bundle?

Inquiring minds would like to know. B)

I can see why the question is raised. However, no, there is no connection whatsoever. The timing is entirely co-incidental and not in any way orchestrated. The v2.9 release was expected sooner - as you know!

As winter descended upon the northern climes
druids gathered 'round the two towers
in the pale light of the early dawn
true believers
their numbers diminished
the last in line
awaiting the signs
of an ancient technology revived
delivered from an alien race
ancient aliens
snow drives back the foot that's slow
winds of Thor are blowing cold
wearing steel that's bright and true
they carry a message that must get through
to build a dream for me and you
they choose a path where no one goes
they hold no quarter
they ask no quarter

Just wanted to give you guys an update. Hope this helps!

That's Zep No Quarter in the end, but what is in the begining?

I enjoyed using SGear but in the long waiting period for 2.9 I found Fractal Audio and therefore won’t be going back to SGear.

Has Fractal moved into software? I thought they only had the hardware units.

No, there isn’t a software product from Fractal. However, I have found it much easier to get the tones I am searching for. That’s after trying just about every product available. As far as software plugins are concerned, SGear was the best in IMHO. :)

Hmmmmmm. $2000 (Fractal hardware) vs $130 (S-Gear software). Maybe add $200 to the Fractal price for the 3-year warranty since it is, after all, hardware.

Let me think about that for a little bit before I decide to switch...

thinking....

thinking....

OK. I think I just decided to stick with the software and wait for the 2.9 update.

I see your point, I have an Axe Fx III since one year and it is amazing, incredible tones without much effort and virtually limitless options.

But it is not in the same league as S-Gear. Maybe the upcoming FM3 will.

I use S-Gear when traveling, on a laptop, and love the tones I get from it at an amazing price, it has been with me since more than 5 years, just delivering. I hope there is an update soon too because I saw the new interface during the Guitar Summit and it is very convenient.

Guys, without taking anything away from S-Gear. There was a time when it was the best. And trust me, I've tested them all.. Currently I track with a hybrid setup. AMP -> Loadbox -> Audio Interface -> CabSim. But the only software that comes close is Naural DSP. Plini and Nolly. As much as I want to believe that S-Gear 2.9 will be worth the extra long wait, I doubt it. I've moved on... Been more than a year since I've even open s-gear.

Yeah, let's be clear on the type of music we're using the amp sim for. The Neural DSP products are excellent, but focused on extreme metal. That is their strength and target market (thats obvious after visiting their website and watching youtube videos).

I find S-Gear to be be ideal for mainstream stuff (blues, rock, country, pop, funk, hip-hop, etc).

And yet you are here in this forum. Why? Very Strange! :)

November is Black Friday month, (plus a new version of Cubase) so I can't see any point in releasing anything new this month, then it is Christmas. I won't be able to afford any upgrade until probably January. So take your time Mike, I'm in no hurry!

The update may be free for you @rollasoc:

"S-GEAR v2.9 will be a free update to anyone who purchased (or purchases) S-GEAR in the 12 months preceeding the v2.9 release. For other existing customers there will be a small upgrade fee (to be announced)."

I'm assuming the free update will apply to those who purchased based on the above news when it was announced, and not when the update finally gets released.
