Hi...I used virtually no outboard gear with the MD recorder, other than two guitar distortion pedals plugged into one another (I didn't like their individual sounds, but together I got what I wanted).
One of the things that I have wondered about, which might potentially have an effect on helping me to get the kind of sound that I'm looking for, is using a direct box. At the moment, I just go into my audio interface, a Presonus Firestudio, and then go from there into my Mac Pro, and record in GarageBand.
