TOPIC: S-Gear v3.0 is now available

S-Gear v3.0 is now available 10 months 3 weeks ago #23736

Hi folks,

I’m very happy to say that S-Gear v3.0 is now available for download.

Please see the S-Gear v3.0 Upgrade FAQ for more information.
Plesae also take a look at the short S-Gear v3.0 Upgrade Quickstart Guide , and the full S-Gear v3.0 User Manual .

The upgrade is free for those with an S-Gear v2.9 license, just download and install. If upgrading from S-Gear v2.7, a discounted upgrade (USD $35) is currently available.

S-Gear v3.0 includes a new virtual pedalboard and our first pedal, 'Drive thru'. The Drivethru pedal is a combination of the classic TS style filtering and format, along with refined modelling of the clipping stages. The result is a very natural analogue drive which complements all the S-Gear amps. Do check out the included Drivethru factory bank.

More pedals are planned in the near future. Tell us what you would like to see and why!

Cheers,
Mike

First, congratulations Mike! I imagine this is a huge milestone and undertaking.
Second, I can't believe this is a free update for some. I feel like I owe you something.

I'd love to see a Scuffham patreon page where we could show our thanks, and you could possibly show some behind the scenes of how you do what you do!

Long awaited best amp sim on the market if you ask me. A Treble Booster would be a nice complement for May/Iommi kind of tone, please consider it for future pedals developing (if not already on the way...).
Can't wait to install the update.

Great Mike, thanks a lot. Looking forward to use the new drive option (installing now)! :-)
Regarding pedals: I find that live is much less nice without a Wah (incl. Auto-Wah) pedal ;-)
That's what I personally miss the most in S-Gear.

EDIT: Just tried out the new options. Sweet! I especially like the No 4 preset, which really has some mojo! :-)

Great news. And a free upgrade from 2.9! Thanks Mike.

Since you asked for suggestions on pedals I will give some from my wishlist:
  • something similar to a Timmy pedal. It's not been done much in software and I think it would complement the amps in S-Gear nicely
  • a Zendrive would be nice too for pretty much the same reasons
  • or why not some new pedal of Mikes own design not existing in the physical world. That could be interesting!

Amazing, can't wait to try this out!

In terms of future pedals, please not more 'classics'! - there are a thousand TubeScreamer, Rat and Big Muff models out there. How about some more modern classics which aren't anywhere in VST form - Analogman King of Tone and/or Wunface, Hudson Broadcast, Timmy, Zendrive, etc. Although, whateve you do, adding that Scuffham 'twist' is the key thing!

But whatever you make I'm sure it will sound great!

I’m a couple weeks new to S-Gear and I’m very happy with it. I’m excited about your addition and I’m glad I chose Scuffham. I’m a big Van Halen fan and know ED used a Variac. Another idea would be a version of micro pitch for that Balance tone. Thank you Mike.

Congrats Mike!

I agree with the post above re modern classic overdrives. To that list I would add Klon and Red Snapper.

What a great way for people to try different overdrives.

I have some nice Snappers I'd be happy to lend you.

Very nice! Thanks Mike. Since you asked, I use S-Gear for both electric & acoustic guitar & would love to have a decent shimmer effect pedal. I use shimmer occasionally usually for a slow intro which I turn off when the song speeds up.

This is great! I definitely missed a good drive that I could control with my MIDI foot switch.

For pedal ideas, I would love to see a good fuzz built in. I sometimes use a different amp sim and wire the fuzz pedal from that into s-gear to get that lead sound that cuts through any mix.
The s-gear amps have a very smooth tube like quality, but sometimes you want the sound a bit more edgy, especially if you want to blend into a mix, and a hard fuzz can usually do that trick.

I just saw The Studio Rats YouTube channel demoing V3 and am seriously impressed with this new version, and in particular, what that new boost pedal can do to add to everything from clean to beyond - great news that you now have a pedal rack incorporated.
As has been mentioned before, that's very generous of you to give this away free to V2.9 and above owners (and a hefty discount to older version owners). As a 2.97 owner myself, thus getting this update for free, I wouldn't mind showing appreciation by contributing something towards your beer/pub grub/developer fund, if you have a paypal/similar contribution page?
As for pedal ideas, that boost pedal you've included in V3 has really taken things to another level (from the YT demo video) - I can not get the same high quality result using additional plugins pre-S-Gear in my DAW - and I have a big bunch to chose from. I'm thinking S-Gear having access to the raw audio data (compared to being passed in from a 3rd party plugin), makes a musically desirable difference, certainly for that boost pedal). If that's the case then I'm thinking the sky's the limit for what to add. A little known 'secret sauce pedal' would be a simple EQ pedal e.g. 10 band, offering cut/boost on each band. Perhaps some crazy Frankenstein pedal, incorporating bits from here and there?
I'm guessing the pedal rack is all between guitar and amp? I don't know if it would be useful to allow custom pedal assignments to after pre-amp too (pre-amp loop)?

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this yet, I have the gain dialed pretty high in the amps (stereo) and the pedals. The feedback I'm getting is fantastic. I haven't noticed any other amp sim act like this, basically like a real amp does.
