TOPIC: S-GEAR v2.70 is now available

S-GEAR v2.70 is now available 5 years 11 months ago #15995

Hi everyone,

S-GEAR v2.70 is now available for download. Please remember to install the correct version depending on your licensing scheme (machine-locked or iLOK).

This free update includes:

New 4x12" Cabinet impulses

ProConvolver gets new 4x12" cabinet configurations:

4x12" Modern SV30 : upper left
4x12" Modern SV30 : lower right
4x12" Modern S12M20 : upper left
4x12" Modern S12M20 : lower right

Created using a modern Mesa cabinet loaded with Vintage V30 and Heritage G12M20 speakers, each cab configuration has measurements for both the upper left and lower right speaker position. The lower right position yields an enhanced bass response (due to the additional baffle effect) resulting in a thicker sound.

Extended Factory Presets

F100 Mojo Workin' - A Johnny Winter inspired blues overdrive tone
F101 Heavy Swamp Blues - A thick harmonic delta blues overdrive. Kick out the tremolo and roll back the guitar volume to clean up
F102 Mississippi Clean - Just a great basic punchy clean for blues and rock & roll
F103 Raunchy Blues 1 - Muddy Waters inspired blues
F104 Raunchy Blues 2
F105 Jeff McErlain Demo - Sweet sounding preset from the excellent Jeff McErlain demo video
F106 Texas Shuffle - SRV inspired for Stats
F107 Plexi Crunch 1 - Two great basic Plexi crunch's using the new cabs
F108 Plexi Crunch 2
F109 Stealer Punchy Crunch
F110 AC Rhythm 1 - Selection of Voxy mix-ready presets using the SC30 cabinets
F111 AC Rhythm 2
F112 AC Crunch
F113 AC Lead 1
F114 AC Lead 2
F115 AC Lead 3
F116 Mark 2 Clean - Great reference Boogie presets create by Jerry Stevenson, use the GEQ to adjust to taste.
F117 Mark 2 Lead
F118 Mark 2 Lead 4x12
F119 Tremendous Lead - Great preset from the S-GEAR demo video by Pady, resurrected from S-GEAR v2.2
F120 White Hot - A few Wayfarer heavy tones with the new 4x12 cabinets
F121 MKV - S12M20
F122 MKV - V30

A new ProConvolver option allowing 'Z' Control to be applied to non-speaker emulated output

This new ProConvolver DI mode is especially useful if you are using S-GEAR in a live situation with a solid state power amp and traditional guitar speaker cabinet. Obviously in this situation one would normally disable the ProConvolver (or use the straight DI mode) - since cabinet emulation is not required when driving out into a real guitar cab. However, applying the 'Z' control will give additional high-end clarity and low-end punch that might otherwise be lacking. The option is also useful if you are using an external cabinet emulator of any kind (hardware or software).

Having recently had the task of building a new live rig (for myself) I spent some time auditioning all the amps in my studio (and garage) trying to find a set up that would work well for small venue gigs. I wasn't necessarily planning to use S-GEAR since the venues probably wouldn't have a great in house PA and I don't have a compact FRFR (Full Range Flat Response) system. However, I found myself drawn to the feel and flexibility of S-GEAR into a Matrix power amp driving a Two Rock 2x12" cab. Initially I felt the sound was lacking a little clarity compared with my tube amps, this led me to experiment with applying S-GEAR's 'Z' curves to a non-emulated output. The results were very good. If you are using S-GEAR live into a real guitar speaker cab, do try this new option and taylor the amount of 'Z' curve as you like.

Improvements to the Preset and Impulse lists and empty preset slots low-lighted

V2.7 introduces smoother scrolling of the S-GEAR Preset and Impulse lists. This is helpful when using the mouse wheel to scroll to a particular preset or a blank preset slot. With the smooth scrolling it is easier to focus on the list and find what you are looking for. I'm aware that there have been requests to make the S-GEAR UI larger and this will be coming soon!

An updated S-GEAR User Manual will be available in a few days time. I'll post back here once that is done.

Enjoy the v2.7 update!

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks Mike, updating now. Those presets look pretty interesting and might be a good learning experience to see how these tones were created.

I'm also debugging my MainStage/S-Gear setup for my backup gigging rig Into an X32-Core. And I might even use it as the performance rig for some settings.

nice one,,

the straight di with z curve is really something ... i think it gives a nice feel and touch factor to the sound ,i like it with nebula cabs it bnirngs the string sound interaction closer to your fingers sensibility i think reminds that power amp thumpf that you maybe don't know it was there, but if you take it out you can tell .

congrats on the new update.

Wow. So impressed with this piece of software. Using if for 95% of projects. It works flawlessly. So easy to get a tone in any genre. Loads quickly in my DAW, and no crashes. Updates are timely and always beneficial.

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to SGear, Mike. This is one happy customer.

Thanks for all the encouraging words on the v2.7 release. Very much appreciated :)

I've posted a small update to the Windows build (v2.71), this fixes an offset right click menu on the rack devices.

Cheers,
Mike

Some presets really shine with a particular guitar and pickup combination, or sometimes the come to life when the guitar volume pot is backed-off just a little. It pays to experiment.

Please make the I/O Module state save with the presets. This is a major PITA when using both stereo and mono outputs from the amp in different instances in a daw.

Excellent Mike!

Will take it for a spin...

By the way, I've just got today the master takes for my two EP's that will be released soon. S-Gear was fundamental in the process of recording and writing, so I would like to thank you for that. Will send you a link to download the songs later...

:good job: - Great job!

The new presets are an absolute tonic too - so alive sounding and very dynamic.

'Stealer Punchy Crunch' and 'Mojo Working' will be bringing a lot of fun for a long time.
And the AC-inspired patches are axcellent

Great update to an already very fine product.
