Greetings all,

Apologies for the silence. Jet lag and writing coherent sentences don't go together for me. I'm just now penning a news item with a report and reflection from the 2018 NAMM show, along with various questions answered.

Much thanks as always for the support and enthusiasm towards S-GEAR. :)

Cheers,
Mike

Hi folks,

I've posted a NAMM report on the website here:
www.scuffhamamps.com/news/product-news/94-namm-report-2018

Happy to try and answer any further questions you may have.

I want to re-iterate that having the opportunity to meet and talk to S-GEAR users face-to-face at these shows has been a hugely valuable and enjoyable experience. Looking forward to the next time... and with more new product to show.

Cheers,
Mike

My main wish in the wishlist thread seems to be coming true - easier to see / navigate, some elements resiszable. "Evolution, not Revolution" - is good with me. Thanks for the update Mike :thumbs up:

Yep...The S-Gear future looks bright, although it sounds like 2019 for 3.0. I'll be looking forward to 2.9 in the meantime. Thanks for the update!

Be careful what you wish for. Over the years I have seen different software products at a really nice place and then a new version comes out which is supposed to be better, but the program takes a left turn for the worse. Recently Firefox browser did this for me by coming out with a new version "Quantum". For me I cannot use it and I uninstalled it and reinstalled the last version. Line 6 did this with the Pods. The red bean 2.0 version was really good. The next updated floorboards were fizzy and didn't sound as good to many users.

I am not saying this is going to happen to S-Gear, but what we have now is pretty good.

I don't understand why 2.9 would be free for people who purchased in the last 12 months and not for people who purchased before that. Other than a couple of cabinets and some maintenance updates the program hasn't really changed for over 2 years- since version 2.5. It seems unfair at the very least.

It doesnt seem that "unfair" at all.
If we fail to qualify for free upgrade, it means we purchased S-Gear some while back.. 'As-is', at the time.
There has been some decent, free, improvements in the time since. Lucky us,
Its not unnaceptable to next pay for an upgrade to a major revision. All other pro software is the same. Really.

An amnesty for very recent purchasers is simply ' fair'.

I'm an early adopter and devote from v 1. something or other - please take some money from me - I've had nothing but free-bies including Wayfarer, 57, room thing , etc etc - I'm feeling very bad about begging for an update.....oh yea and please make the Wayfarers Tremolo circuit available in the Mod thing - for all amps to utilize.

Thanks to Mike for the update. Looking forward to the new developments.

The focus on accessibility in the new frameworks is welcome. Hi DPI sceens are the future I expect and S-Gear, with the foreshadowed accessibility changes, is going to be more comfortable to use in those environments. A full HD laptop sceen or an even denser one like the MS Surface Pro (2000x3000 @ 12") can make quick and precise operation of plugins and apps with small fonts difficult.

I still think that S Gear is the best deal avaialble right now. Even though we have to pay a little for an update.

Think about it. A nice diner at a restaurant with your wife cost more LOL!

And because I sold expensive gear to use exclusively S Gear I have more money for those diners....

Thanks very much for all the positive and encouraging comments :)

I'll do my best to get the new v2.9 in place as soon as possible... from there we'll have a much better platform for new devices and features.

Cheers

I do not mind fee for updates, but waiting for 3 has been really long, and still it is in really hazy future, maybe perhaps, if we are lucky.

Basing free updates on a lapsed timespan is only reasonable, if you bring out updates regularly. Like a financial software, which is updated at least once a year to reflect changing circumstances. With sporadic updates, charging updates fees is usually based on Major Releases.

Having bought S-Gear 2.60 in 1/17 I do not qualify to a free update. Since then there was only V2.7 as a minor release (disregarding the 2 service releases). So I had expected having to pay for a version 3, but not for the next minor release. (BTW...?)

Anyway! S-Gear being the best-sounding software of its kind, I will upgrade in any case.
Cheers, Chris

Thanks for the update Mike, and we will be anxiously waiting for the new release and updates, even if we have to pay for it. It's a small fee for all it offers and I would be happy to help you make S-Gear even better.
