TOPIC: ModThing & DelayThing audio drops at bypass toggle

ModThing & DelayThing audio drops at bypass toggle 10 months, 2 weeks ago #1952

Hi,

I'm finally reworking my whole live guitar setup by using S-Gear as the basis for all my sounds. For a few songs I turn delay and chorus on and off during various parts of the song. When I use the bypass toggle for ModThing and DelayThing in S-Gear there's a small drop in audio before the effects kicks in or out. Thing is quite annoying and very noticeable. Is this a known issue? Any workaround? I'm using S-Gear 2.02.

Thanks,

Geert

Hi Geert,

ModThing and DelayThing have a two stage bypass which allows you to mute just the input to each effect. This is a better option for switching since there is no audio dropout. There are some notes on the last page of the User Manual:

>>>>
The bypass switch for both ModThing and DelayThing uses a special two-stage switch. Stage 1 bypass mutes the device input, and Stage 2 bypass removes the device from the processing chain. Stage 1 bypass is particularly useful for live performance when you wish to switch out a delay unit without cutting off the effect repeats.
The following table shows what values should be sent via automation/MIDI in order to trigger each stage of bypass.
Automation (Audio Unit) MIDI
Stage 1 Input Mute 0.5 63
Stage 2 Full Bypass 1.0 127
<<<<

Let me know if this does the job!

Cheers,
Mike.

For the next release of S-Gear, I have made it such that the full bypass is also immediate for the ModThing and DelayThing (i.e. no level mute). The two-stage bypass will still give you a choice of switching with or without the delay tails.

Cheers,
Mike.
